I'm a mood reader—if I vibe with it, I'm reading it. Mainly fantasy, heists, murder mysteries. I love good word building and good character development too!

    I need motivation 😭

I'm 15% along on this book but it isn't holding my interest anymore. I pick it up, read a few paragraphs, get bored and drop it 😭 Idk if it's the length that's throwing me off (I usually read books with an average of 40 chapters) or the alternating fast-and-slow pacing (I love books that are fast paced right from the jump). Someone please motivate me 🫠

  • Reading and bad memory

I have an awful memory, we’re talking nonexistent. I forget the MC’s name a week after finishing a book, no matter how good it was. Slowly, I forget and I forget and a month after almost nothing is left. Most of the books, I remember them by vibe only. Problem is, I hate rereading. It feels like a waste of time. So I just read and then I forget and then I read other books that I’ll also forget 🤷🏽‍♀️ I don’t know how to feel about that

    Thoughts from 2% (page 20)

How do you keep all of these characters straight?? I have no clue who is who already, which is why I’ve always been intimidated by high fantasy. Do you take notes? Make a character spreadsheet? Just go with the flow and hope it all comes together? I’m already sweating, 20 pages in 😅

How often do you read books you don't expect to like?

So I'm a firm believer that while reading for fun and choosing books you know you'll probably like, reading to broaden our minds is super important (I DO have a degree in literature and teach middle school English, why do you ask?). Once we're grown up and out of school and no one makes us read anything at all anymore, nothing stops us from reading the same type of books.

(Some people don't read at all! Shocking, I know!)

So my question is this: How often do you choose a book because it's not what you normally read? And do you have an example of one where you surprised yourself by really enjoying it?

For me it was "Girls Against God" by Jenny Hval, which is much more creative nonfiction-y in writing style than I normally enjoy. It's also the wildest and most anarchic book I've ever read in my life, lol

"Because if feminism causes misery, that is what we might need to cause." I've never resonated with a statement more. Sometimes we are too insecure about the consequences of speaking out. We shouldn't be.
