I definitely enjoyed this book more than I anticipated based on reviews I’d seen. However, this book was way too long & drawn out. I didn’t need to hear Gregory’s inner thoughts where he comes to the same exact conclusion 80,000 times (the conclusion being that he loves Lucy).
I appreciated that Lucy didn’t lash out at Hermione, and generally seemed to be a girl’s girl. As opposed to most stories, where women hate each other just because of their feelings for a man. However, Hermione’s character seemed excessively juvenile when it came to love & butterflies, which did bother me a bit. And Lucy, being written as more pragmatic and less likely to fall in love, of course, fell in love very quickly with Gregory.
I would’ve enjoyed some more spice (there was barely any), but I looooooved the first kiss scene between Lucy and Gregory. I thought it was well-written.
The last 100 pages felt too repetitive, and I despise the “accidental” breeding mentality featured in the epilogue. But “it’s accurate for the time period,” right!!?? 🥱
Also, I liked that Lucy’s husband to be is gay and it seems to be generally accepted by everyone (except her uncle). 🏳️🌈
