Is taking any interesting books out of an open book shelf selfish?

I have piles and piles of unread books at home because I regularly check the public bookcase in my part of town. In fact, it gets me out of the house when I would otherwise stay inside, and I'm always looking forward to finding a new treasure.

Now recently, someone said to me I was being selfish for hoarding all of these books and that made me feel quite bad about this habit! Nobody misses them, but other people might not have a lot of options for their next read and I am keeping those books from them... what do you think? Is it okay to just take anything interesting? I only find something good about once or twice a month, it's not like I am taking 5 books a week, but I have at least 100 unread books at home and am a slow reader. Should I catch up with what I have before seeking new treasures?

Hi everyone! I was just editing some older reviews from months ago because sometimes I feel like my judgment of a book takes a bit to settle, if that makes sense?

Especially because later in the year, I'm better able to compare that book with other ones I really liked, and decide that maybe I should've given the other one a lower rating in retrospect.

It got me curious about other people's experiences with changing your mind about books. Do you often go back and lower a rating? Or give something a higher rating later?

When you are reading a book, do you actually select the edition that you are reading, do you not really care, or do you select the prettiest cover, if there is more than one available?

To be honest, I typically select the prettiest. Since we can select the medium (print, ebook, audio) separatel, I just look through the editions and pick whichever editions I like best. Sometimes not even the language matches (i.e. I read in german but like the english cover better)

Does anyone else do this?

(Edit: I just realised I can’t translate this literally (I think): Hand on heart is a german expression that basically means “speak from the heart”/“be honest”) (Edit 2: I found out “Hand on Heart” exists in english too! Yeay languages!!)

Hello pagers!

I'm considering putting a LFL in front of my home. I live on a main road, right next to commercial property so people can park their car safely if they decide to stop. I'm a little hesitant though for some reason, I think more than anything just parting with my books (because obviously the chances of them coming back are relatively slim). But other safety concerns are also thoughts I have.

Does anyone here have an LFL and would like to share their experience? Thank you all!

I've been trying to read more physical books lately so I had to buy some bookmarks. I got a couple off etsy and I realised I really like it when my bookmark matches the book! My partner has a 3D printer which was largely used for printing spice wracks, accessories for our skadis and storage and I realised I could make bookmarks! Currently I have a bookmark that is black with red roses on to match my copy of Bury Our Bones.

Where do you buy your bookmarks? What do you like to have on your bookmarks? Or do you do away with them and use whatever is to hand? Or gasp do you turn the corners of your pages!?

Is anyone else here also a bit sad about this fall's readalong? Ofc taste is a very personal thing, but the books chosen dont really stand out to me. Does anyone also feels this way? Should I give any of them a shot?
