ashley winstead's premises feel so unique and interesting to me every time, and i feel like this is no exception. exploring the potential of a celebrity who is NOT a huge star is interesting, and the idea that there's a secret society of celebrity women wreaking havoc and getting revenge instead of secret societies of hollywood men being terrible is a cool twist.
however, towards the middle-end of the book, the narrative seemed like it shifted a lot, and the latter was therefore a bit less satisfying than the first. overall though, i had fun with it!

i read this off and on for quite a while because the book is so long, and it wasn't until the last few days that i really committed to it. luckily, i committed just as it began to pick up.
at the beginning, tessa is still frustrating to read from, though not as bad as she was in tempest. however, she does finally grow, and it makes the reading experience a lot more satisfying. i found the resolution of various pieces of conflict throughout to be satisfying as well, so i found this to be an overall satisfying conclusion for the series

this was cute like the spellshop was cute. however, unlike the spellshop, i also think that the addition of extra adventures (which go hand in hand with sailing) gives it a really good blend of plot/stakes and coziness/heartwarming moments. therefore, i think that i liked this even a bit more than the spellshop, and im happy to have read it.

i fear that this was the epitome of fine. it was unserious, but not charming enough to balance it out. the seriousness wasn't taken seriously enough for the stakes to feel like they mattered. idk, it wasn't bad, it just wasn't anything special for me (and it was too long).
