"And if people did not blame the actual source of their problems, if they were too distracted by lies too seek out the truth, then their lives would never improve."
🫠😭
This book may have some issues with pacing and structure of past versus present, but the messages within are so very relevant.

I loved the first book but I have to admit that the 2nd book has been a little harder for me to get into. It hasn’t had the same tension and mystery as the first one did. It will be interesting to see if I continue to feel this way. I like her writing style and it has certainly picked up for me as are protagonist board a boat and start to visit the islands.

"He was head over heels for you, and everyone knew but you, and maybe him."
While some readers may consider the early slow burn of this book to be too slow, Summer Sons is reminiscent of the humid, sticky summer days in which it is set in. In the sweltering slow burn of a mystery wrapped in a haunting love story, Lee Mandelo takes the reader on an emotional, adrenaline fueled horror story - one full of vice and distraction in the face of unbearable loneliness and loss.
The novel's slow pacing evens out near the mid-way point, heightened by impromptu drag races, recreational drug use, and confrontation after confrontation.
Fast cars, dangerous races, hate-fueled fights in the name of honor, and internalized homophpobia propel this story forward, an emotional mystery waiting beneath the haunts that caress Andrew whenever a free moment presents itself.
Perfect for readers looking for a grown-up Dream Thieves, or those devastated by the creeping botanical haunts that defile another broken boy named Andrew in Don't Let the Forest In.

Does anyone ever see so much about a book that it makes them suspicious of the book? Cause I’ve been seeing this one everywhere for months and I’m like….it can’t be that good right? I don’t think it’s to the level of like….anything by Sarah J. Maas (legit I will probably never read stuff by her because of how it’s everywhere) but I just get a weird vibe from it. And it’s something that would otherwise be completely up my alley!

Dramatic battles, tense political intrigue, unique world building...and is that maybe some romance I'm sensing? These books are not Romantasy but focus primarily on the SFF elements. Romance is a subplot and may not appear until later in the series, but when it does, you won't be disappointed.

"This hardly counted as an emergency, but anger rarely made anyone rational - not even witches."
Relatable. 😭
Love the idea of magic being built on powerful emotion and intention, not to mention the idea of storing it inside a jar or glass ball for further use. Whether it be grounding, comforting, or anything in between.

"To the woods witches and the bog witches, the witches by the moors and the witches by the seaside, the urban and suburban witches, and to all those who push against the chaos to create a better, more equitable, and more just world."
Love this dedication! Great way to start the book, even if I am not completely sold on the general idea of it.
