I find it very hard to write a review. It's a very very very good book! I couldn't say that I enjoyed it that much as it is a very heavy book and topic (at least 35 kilos lol), but it's well written, you can dive right into the world, you get to know human abysses (idk if that's a good thing tho) From the beginning I was sucked into the story of Rin and her world but especially in the third part the pacing seemed to pick up a lot and I could hardly put it down. I loved that it's so different from other fantasy books, the pacing, the magic "system" which is basically a connection to the gods, that you literally have to get high to have access to the magic,.... Also, you really get a feeling that the author knows about the written topic and it shows What I liked as well is that you couldn't put the people in a box. Concerning the main characters there were none you could describe as the hero or the enemy (apart from the federation duh). Everybody had their flaws, their doubts, their "good" and "bad" moments. And you could really feel Rin struggle with this and how to choose which path she has to go down, so it felt really relatable and just... human. I'm so excited for the next two books but I think I neeeed a feel good book first to process all the horror this book had.

Screaming, crying, throwing up Loveeeeeed it as well! I just think it's such a well written book with details that makes this so so so good! I really felt emotional towards the end and had to remind myself that all of it is fiction (especially the characters lol). I kinda missed Elspeth in this one but I understand why she doesn't have the biggest role. And I loved the new perspectives of Elm, the nightmare and Ravyn. I also loved that none of them was the "overall powerful extra magical" being (like in many other stories). Everyone had their flaws but was still relatable. I enjoyed this ride so much!!! And I'll probably try reading other books from the author as well, hoping it's as good as this duology

A collection of the pilot books for popular series, for those of us who love to follow a character's journey for as long as an author will let us! Some of the below series have heavily debated starting points and book read orders--in those cases the pilot was selected based on what seems to be the most popular approach.
