I need depressing book recs!! Not like “oh no and then he died!” i mean the kind that make you mourn after the book is finished or that makes you appreciate every tiny good thing that happened. I want misery, sadness, and almost like failing to succeed or not being able to make a goal that so desperately wanted/needed to be met Books dont make me cry but maybe theres one out there that will and I have yet to find it.

This book is peak. Absolutely peak. From that opening sentence to now being 8 chapters in, I haven’t been able to put this book down. There’s something so immersive in Kristoff’s prose. Every element just works. The banter between Gabriel and Jean-Francois is great; the drip-dropping of lore the further in I get; the banger quotable lines; everything about this book is captivating. I find myself wanting to know more and dive as deep as I can in this world. I haven’t felt this way since Kingdoms of Death (Book 4 of The Sun Eater series by Christopher Ruocchio). I can already tell this is going to be a masterpiece.

Three chapters in and I am beyond immersed. The prose. The dialogue (oh I love witty sassy banter). The characters.
