This series is just unreal. Usually I want to read books quickly, but I truly savored this one. If I didn’t have a bunch of library holds ready, I’d go straight into the next one.

I think this book just recalibrated my ratings because I cannot remember the last time I felt this way about a book. Maybe A Court of Mist and Fury? I realize how insane that might sound because in some ways these books could not be more different. But there is something about becoming so fully immersed in a world where it feels like your surroundings truly fade away. This book did that for me in spades. I remember having a similar feeling about the first - feeling compelled and curious, feeling invested in the lives of these women. But things really took off in the second book.

Xochitl Gonzalez is so talented! This book does such a beautiful job of telling three separate stories but connecting all of them so beautifully not just by having the characters eventually interact with one another (not directly interact event, but creatively interact with one another in a way that maybe they dont meet but we as readers have them meet in our minds), but also by showing similar tropes and patterns but having characters experience it across different time periods/settings/etc. My least favorite chapters were Jack's. Anytime I read his chapters I wanted to skip pages because I found him R E P U L S I V E. I guess that was the point though. Anita and Raquel are BEAUTIFULLY written characters. You root for them the whole time, and if you are like me, you see elements of yourself in them at times. I especially resonated with Raquel and also felt for Raquel. I dont want to give any spoilers, but I just want to say, please try this book out. It may not captivate you at first and I blame the Jack content for that lol, but by the end you step back and realize you have been part of watching a beautiful web be weaved.

I finished The Poppy War last week and still haven’t stopped thinking about it. I will definitely be picking up the rest of the series when I get the chance, but I’m seeing so many saying they couldn’t get into this book or weren’t enjoying it. Is there anyone else out there that couldn’t put it down??

These books are almost mystical to me. The writing is straightforward with a few moments of poetry. The plot, compared to other books I'm generally drawn to, feels like it doesn't propel us forward. And yet. When I'm reading, I'm utterly immersed. When I'm not, I can't stop thinking about it. I remember feeling the same way about the first book. I don't think any other book I've read has captured some of the deepest emotions I've felt. Cannot wait to continue!

myshaaaaylaaaaaaa I think Katie Naymon wrote this for me, and me alone. Like read my journal, said "alright bet" and went to town. This isn't for everyone, but is for the girls who were poetry majors in college and felt inadequate against writerly writers. LOVE LOVE LOVE.

Hi y'all! Anyone have recs for audiobooks? I LOVED Tom Lake. Another favorite is Happiness Falls. Those two audiobooks stand apart from anything else I've ever listened to. Anyone have recommendations based on those?

I enjoyed this on audiobook, but for me, the form was more enjoyable than the substance. The ending fell flat for me, and I found myself not caring about most of the characters. Also, the podcast bits didn't feel "real" to me. It kept my attention and I appreciated the pacing, but by the 2/3 point, I had a feeling that once I finished I wouldn't give it much further thought.

My god this was fun. I loved the plot and thought it was really beautiful how the “smut” was deeper than your average—Elsie Silver did such a great job in driving home how fun and experimental things can get when you feel truly safe with your partner. West melted my heart. Absolutely loved this one!

I was listening to this one as an audiobook, and I can't tell if I was just too distracted while reading to enjoy this, or if it wasn't for me. The audio was so immersive, I almost wonder if I would prefer reading a physical version. Any tips from the folks who have read this? It seems like such a beautiful read!
