Wow, we’re really starting off strong on the account of Celaena being insufferable; baking in the sun while complaining about the heat. Girl, just move.

I’ve been told for the past 3 books that “it gets great in Heir of Fire”, and already it’s not looking good.

“It is easy to be lied to when you do not know any of these people firsthand.”

This feels so relevant to so much of the violence happening in the world today.

I could write essays upon essays about this book. I cried. I laughed. It's so tender. It's everything. I thought nothing would top Open Water for me, but Small Worlds managed to do it. This one is brilliant on audio, or brilliant if you cue up songs and albums mentioned throughout the novel. I highly recommend making a playlist as you read -- it creates such a vibe. I honestly can't wait to reread this.

I love how this novel explores themes, using repetition without feeling redundant. Azumah Nelson is brilliant -- I love the way he talks about the smell of lemongrass filling a kitchen and the way that light filters through trees, or how sunlight on curtains immediately takes you to a season and time of day. And the way he talks about that feeling of fatigue, the one that is so much deeper than physical. It's something that connects with so many people, regardless of race or age or religion, but there are nuances there. For Steven's mother, that exhaustion carries a different weight than it might for Steven while he is at uni, but the feeling rhymes. And the way he weaves music throughout the narrative brings everything to life. UGH I LOVE THIS WRITER.
