Thank you to whoever told me to go ahead and purchase this book if I enjoy annotating! I have so much tabbed, highlighted, and underlined already. This is my first Fredrik Backman novel and I’m already loving it 😳

I haven't seen any forum posts about the upcoming Amazon Kindle update so far, so here's a general overview and my own (not very nice) thoughts.

SO! Amazon had the absolutely lovely idea (Sarcasm) to implement an AI chatbot into their Kindles so you can "ask" about the book you're reading. And wanna know what's just extra lovely? No one can opt out. Not the authors and not the readers. No one. It's going to roll out in a few books on IOS, and then in 2026 I THINK it'll be fully implemented.

This is just so fucking cruel, ESPECIALLY to indie authors and publishers. Like I'm not shocked, but I'm so mad for anyone who has their book on kindle. For so many authors kindle is the difference between being able to make money or having no income. I think what irks me the most is that no one can opt out of it. It feels authoritarian, like this is just an aspect of our life we're just supposed to accept with a smile. Like we're supposed to be grateful. Amazon has manipulated the boob market for DECADES. this is quite literally the only reason why they can pull shit like this and it pisses me off to no end.

And then if you're using this shit? Fuck you and get better. Like are we serious? Like actually? Maybe just -hear me out - read the book. I know, SHOCKING. This is literally killing reading comprehension which has already been in an extreme decline. And I'm not saying that you can't be confused by a book- hell sometimes that's the damn POINT. The point is to talk with people and mull over your OWN thoughts. To have your OWN ideas- not some ai bot. That's why apps like Pagebound exist, hell even go to fucking reddit and talk it over there with real damn people.

It's all just so upsetting, and to add fuel to the flame they announced this PURPOSELY close to Christmas. People have already bought their Kindles for gifts- it's too late to send it back and it's probably already wrapped and sitting under a damn tree.

I honestly feel a little guilty. My mom, love you mommy, bought me a Kindle for Christmas and it's already wrapped and under the tree. She dropped over 100 bucks on that thing, and now I feel almost guilty for still wanting it. (I've wanted a kindle for YEARS, ever since I was like 14). Its all just fucked, honestly.

Part of me wonders if there's literally ANYTHING readers can do. Like is there a petition? Review bomb? Yell into the void?

That's just what I think. I also wanted to share this info with my fellow pagebounders. So, what do y'all think? I hope you all also have a lovely day.
