This is fucking weird and I love it for that. A horror that is like the original grimm fairy tales with a dash of mystery. Some of the horror is genuinely creepy and I read it for the first time as an adult so this works wonders as a introduction into the horror genre for middle grade and YA people. I recommend it to everyone, no matter your age, it is such beautiful writing and get into reading more of Frances Hardinge's books, such a underrated writer that needs more love

I loved this book series as a teen but reading this with adult eyes, it's just not that's good. It's fast paced so it sucks you in but the fast pacing is in the way of any character development. It's sad as I loved this book growing up so I was expecting it to be good but it was just not that great when you take the nostalgia goggles off

I love me some time travel. I want some books with time travel shenanigans. I'm not bothered if they time travel to the past or future or both. I just want to read some wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff. Any genre is ok with me.

just wondering which books/authors everyone loved as a child which remain a cherished memory. I was 100% a Jacqueline Wilson gal, with a touch of ‘ally’s world’ and Roald Dahl

Hi all! Do you buy secondhand books? If you do, what are your favorite websites or bookstores to purchase? I find myself in several Amazon-bought websites that sell secondhand copies of titles I want to add to my TBR/home library. It got me wondering if there are better places to get my copies where I can support a fellow reader emptying out their shelves and give these books a new home on my shelves. Thanks in advance for your recs! 🙂 --- UPDATE 💡 For anyone who's just checking this thread, these are what everyone's recommended: - Thryft.asia (those based in Southeast Asia) - Goodwill (https://shopgoodwill.com/categories/books?p=1) - ThriftBooks (https://www.thriftbooks.com/) - Vinted (https://www.vinted.co.uk/catalog/2312-books) - Pango Books (https://pangobooks.com/) - Half Price Books (sadly I got blocked by their website) - Facebook Marketplace - Book Outlet (https://bookoutlet.com/) If you prefer visiting in person, visiting your local library, local used bookstores, charities that may have used books or bargain book bins.

With booktok/tiktok, there's a lot of books that become popular because they're viral. So it got me wondering what teenagers from now will consider a very popular series/books that will become iconic or nostalgic in a decade or two. I'm 32 (Millenial) and when we didn't have social media influencing us what to read as teens, I feel like there was only a handful of very popular series/books at a time. Harry Potter was obviously popular but it was becoming popular when I was a kid rather than a teen. So I don't count that. Hunger Games became popular when I started college so I don't count that either! For me, I remember Twilight of course. Iconic. But there was also these other books that I remember every girl at my school was reading. It was the book Crank. I believe it was a series. I read Crank, Glass and Burned, but there was a few more in the series. Does anyone remember the book Crank?! It was so popular, and I remember there were parents who found out about what the book was about and were trying to have it pulled from some libraries (I lived in utah at the time lol). 13 Reasons Why also was very popular when I was in high school. Let me know! I'm very curious! And if you would like, you can let me know if you're Gen Z/Millenial/Gen X/etc. if you don't wanna post your age (:
