This one has been on my tbr for probably like 20 years (why did my grandpa give me a copy of it when I was a child? Who knows) but Iâm finally getting to it since I want to be able to talk about the hubbub with the new film. Oh. My. God. These people are crazy and I canât get enough. in the past Iâve really only read 1 book that was a collection of short stories and found it to be just okay. My biggest issue with short story collections are that some stories are really good and others not so much, so as a reader who wants to read the full book, I get annoyed when Iâm forcing myself to read stories I have no interest in. From what I can tell reading reviews, this is a common issue for other readers too.
If I see that one of my favorite authors has published a story in one of these collections, I might just borrow the book from the library and read that one short story specifically but ignore the rest, but then I canât really log it anywhere.
From a financial standpoint as well I wonder how profitable short story collections are. Thoughts on this? Are there any short story collections in particular that you enjoyed?

What is an author or book where, if someone recommended it to you, you would instant trust (or distrust) all their future recommendations?
An instant trust for me would be T. Kingfisher.
An instant distrust for me would be Grady Hendrix.
There are more of course but those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head!

I'm currently reading C.A.L.I. by Carolina AndĂșjar, and it's the first time I've read something set in the city where I live. Recognizing the places she mentions, the streets, the bus routes, gives me a strange feeling; it reads differently because you've actually been there. When you read something that takes place where you live, does it feel different to you as well? Like a different connection to the story, or is it just like any other book?

I've just returned from heaven (aka "my local library"). While I was there, I picked up a 1000 piece puzzle that my kid and I can work on together (wish me patience). This was first time picking up something other than a book from the library. I might pick up a board game next time!
What different kinds of goodies have you picked up from your limitless, lovely, local libraries?

Halloween is my favorite holiday - it's also my wedding anniversary! But this year I feel late to the party. I'm down about world events, my job has gotten stale and also insecure, every hour of the day is filled with chores and catching up.
Help me get into that festive spirit!! From House of Leaves to Practical Magic - no fall book is off limits. Pop me your recommendations or tell me about Halloween projects you're working on to get into the spirit this year!
