I LOVED this and I’m so pleasantly surprised. Tolstoy was PETTY and his take on life and authenticity makes me wonder if he was influenced by both Jane Austen and Soren Kierkegaard. Big win for me personally. I have to read Anna Karenina.

Kyla Scanlon is such a great follow on Instagram and this book is no different. If you want to understand what is happening right now in the US economy, this is a very accessible read.

Starting the year off strong. I started reading this thinking, there’s no way I’m supposed to be rooting for this gang of idiot crusaders, but the lesson here is to trust Lev Grossman to pull off a satisfying story with complicated characters and an ending that reflects the truth of humanity.

This book is absolutely perfect except for its overuse of the word skein. Not enough to dock points though.

This one didn’t resonate as much with me as her other books but I can say I now have more appreciation for moss. And I’ll never stop thinking about that rich guy she consulted for and what he did to the land around him. Just wow.

It is woefully clear that many people writing feminist cultural commentary and critique online are completely uninformed about even recent pop culture and media history and need to read this book. If you want to understand how we got to our current state of worshipping tradwives and influencers, you should also read this book. It was extremely well thought out and researched.
And shame on the pearl-clutchers admonishing this book for its title. The title is not rage bait. It’s relevant to the contents of the book. If you read it instead of feigning outrage, you’d understand.

I think the discourse around this book was so weird. Some people said it was too academic and some people said it wasn’t challenging enough. Truly it was neither. It was good, I enjoyed it. The writing wasn’t as sharp as it was in Yellowface, but the characters were complicated and interesting. Solid book.
