I'm already very familiar with the asterix franchise, been loving it since I was a kid, and I re-read the series recently, so now I'm reviewing it, cuz I wanna make more people read it hahaha
Anyways, this is the first comic of the series, and it shows! I still enjoy it don't get me wrong, but I can see that the authors don't have the hang of the characters yet hahahaha. Obelix is barely present in this story hahaha, which is so different than in later installments where they're the definition of best friends :D
It's still nice, there's a ton of jokes that I chuckled a bit at, its a silly and fun read, so i totally recommend! Not the best Asterix, since this story has no stakes or tension for the village, but I appreciate how it lays the foundation for Asterix to be a very clever protagonist who loves to run circles around his opponents haha, he's a lil shit to the romans and it's veryyyy funny.
The drawings are also amazing, there's something so nostalgic and fun to look at how everything is storyboarded, and they know how to use the comic to put visual jokes quite well, but the characters that I know aren't there yet lmao, it's the first comic so it makes sense...
There's also an 2D animated movie adaptation that is alright, like it doesn't expand really on the comic and the animation is kinda bad,,,, from what I remember (I rewatched it recently, and I don't wanna rewatch it for this review haha). It did come out in 1967, but even at the time there's so much better animated movies tbh
Sorry for the long ramble, all the other asterix comics that I will review will probably be as long, cuz I just love it so much hahahhaha :D
