When I first picked up Skyborn: Sparrow Rising by Jessica Khoury, I was expecting a classic hero’s journey. A group of misfits travel the country to prove themselves to a world that thinks so little of them. What I got was that, and so much more. A high-stakes, gut-wrenching, awe-inspiring mission to set that same world free from the lies, danger, and corruption that has kept its people from truly taking flight.

It’s an avian-themed fantasy with characters that feel real, masterful world-building, and powerful themes about family, heroism, truth, and destiny. If you want a book that will make you experience every human emotion and leave you physically, emotionally, and spiritually changed forever, then I highly recommend this series!! 😃👍🏻 But seriously, this series is SO good. 6/5 stars. PLEASE pick it up!!

Additional Thoughts About the Characters: •Ellie is so brave and so strong and I want to be just like her when I grow up. 🥲 •Nox needs a hug. They all need hugs, honestly, but I REALLY want to give Nox a hug. •Twig is such a cinnamon roll. Every book has that character that can do no wrong, and in Skyborn, it’s Twig. •Gussie, my sweet brilliant girl. 🥺 I just love her arc over the course of the series.
