I mentally prepared myself for something completely different but was met by the most relatable robot there is. This is my first sci-fi book and it was such a great starter. It was easy to absorb and the main character was very endearing. As I can see that I have plenty of novellas to go ahead with, I cannot wait to go along its adventures. It’s awkwardness and dry humour.

With that cover I expected anything but murderbot being relatable.

I am beyond frustrated. Frustrated with the fact that this had such an incredible potential in all its totality but it ended up being so underwhelming. The first parts have gotten me specially hooked given its interesting premise and characters but slowly, as I went on. I kept digging and digging and wanting more but it stayed on the surface. I wanted so much more from the plot but it kept me right there.

The magic system felt so shallow, it was so interesting with the incorporation of astrology, occult, and witch craft. But the characters given how they seem to praise themselves for how they know it and practice have got nothing going on.

The climax felt like it was bullshitting with me. It did not feel as cool as it was like in the character’s head. The polyamory dynamic felt weak. There’s a part of me that makes it seem like, Moira was receiving the end of the stick. It honestly shouldn’t gotten on better if it was just the two. Moira just deserves better overall. I know there’s a sequel to this but, it just feels weak overall.

I want to love this so bad. Because I love the world and the characters itself, but it’s hard when I have nothing to write home about. I had high expectations unfortunately. Coming from A Dowry of Blood this just feels subpar.

It was getting way too male-centric for my liking. I think I went in with a completely different expectation, the introduction was incredible but it felt like an accessory to hook you in but it didn’t pull through moving into more of the inner palace drama which, again. I didn’t expected but it was not because of my own expectations but merely basing on the introduction. The main character’s central personality is why she can’t speak it kept repeating and repeating that I had grown tired of it. The constant comparison to her cousin felt bothersome as it didn’t feel like the “dependent” relationship that was claimed and was only briefly mentioned. Kept hearing the praises for the Prince which I do not care about. I wanted to know more about the house of teeth and the brief scene where she was at the apothecary not whatever “love story” was going on. “Forbidden romance” doesn’t involve cheating. The cousin should be allowed a gun but that’s just me. And the fixation of breasts is funny because you have plenty of houses why does it keep on getting mentioned? I would keep going but I really don’t want to see the MC and the Prince bang. Ava Reid is an incredible writer but this is simply not my preference.
