Another thrilling entry in the HTSC series.
Kate's voice is clear and engaging, and the horror elements are executed well. Trigger warning for anyone who has a phobia of spiders, however, as they are a prominent feature in the novel.
Overall a fun and creepy read. It is more of the first novel, which is exactly what I wanted. I enjoyed the ways in which the relationships with the creatures on the land were built upon from what we had learnt about them, and am excited to learn more.
An easy recommend to anyone who enjoys eerie stories.

Both unapologetically trans, and unapologetically Jewish, A World Worth Saving is a gripping coming-of-age story that kept me invested from beginning to end. Lukoff does a great job of writing a young kid who feels real, A is a messy, angry and brave young boy who boldly fights for the world he wants. The characters in the novel are complex, and the choice to create a Jewish-based magic system is something I have never read before -- excellently executed.
My issues with the book are the same I find I have in any coming-of-age trans novel I read, which is the way in which trans and queer characters will often talk to each other in ways that seem... distinctly tiktok? I don't know how to describe it, but the sort of "liberal speak" they do is pulled right from a parody video. However, that might just be the way queer teens talk to each other these days, who is to say.
Overall, the story was gripping and emotional, I cried like a baby at the resolution. A lovely novel.
