What do you think about "read around the world"? It's basically reading a book from each country in alphabetical order. Someone I follow on Instagram (not sure if I can mention her id here) started doing it in 2023, I believe. She's currently reading the K countries. She mostly picks books that were originally written in the countries' language and translated to English. She's also doing a Brazilian side quest: learning Portuguese, reading more books from Brazil or by Brazilian authors as her first pick for Brazil in like 2023 really impressed her.
I think it's an awesome idea. There were so many recommendations by people in her comments for each country. Not only it led way to discovering a lot more books, it also opened doors to different perspectives.
Lmk if I can mention her insta account here and not get flagged. If I can, I'll edit this post.

Iâm not talking problematic, Iâm talking PETTY. Like, âI know itâs stupid, but Iâm dying on this hill anyway,â level of petty. Iâll go firstâŠ
Typically Iâm all for an author getting their bag for their intellectual property. But in this case, I wonât read 'The Witcher' series, and itâs because the author pretty much dissed gaming as an art form, then got the Polish government involved to force CD Projekt Red (game devs of The Witcher series) to renegotiate his contract because he chose to sell his IP in the gaming sector for an immediate payout over taking a royalties check. He didnât believe the game series would come to anything, didnât believe that gaming was a serious art form, then cried when he noticed how much money the devs made (as well as the exposure it created for his book series) and threatened litigation for $16 million.
So I refuse to read his books or watch the show. In fact, I think itâs kinda hilarious that the Netflix writers donât respect his material in the same way he didnât respect gaming. I consider it karmic payback.
You can find out the full scope if you look up YongYea on YouTube. The videos span from 5-6 years ago. And yeah⊠thatâs my Petty Betty book moment. What's yours?
