i have a degree in creative writing and i am working on my master's, but i often feel like i'm not getting everything i could be out of a text. because of the emphasis on getting through hundreds of pages in degrees, i speed read and then don't really remember what is happening or what was argued. inspired by a substack on close reading, i decided to delve into the topic.

the first part of this book is about why close reading is awesome, and i love that. the basic argument is that analysis is FUN, which i agree with but many seem not to.

Re-reading in my 30s as a Xmas gift to myself✨

When I first read this more than 30 years ago as a kid, it felt like the world I carried inside me fiy had a language, a shape and a place to exist. Even though I had no idea what this place was, these stories mirrored something already alive inside of me. And it wasn't just about discovering fantasy, I think it was about discovering myself.

I can specifically remember the cold, rainy winter evening when my mom brought this book and I literally devoured it, I just couldn't put it down. I didn't know it was possible to read a book in one evening and lose track of time doing so, and I found it out reading this piece of literature.

Is it weird I picked it up again during Christmaseve? I don't know. Maybe it's a gift that will help me find a way to trust magic again. Not magic in the sense of "unreal"; but as in, emotionally true.

    ✨ Happy holidays everyone.
