    Mini review

I'm a bit confused. Kingfisher wrote that it became too long that's why this is a duology. But this book was only around 200-250 pages and the second is ~300-350. That is around 600 pages in total, a reasonably sized standalone fantasy book. This first volume was just setting up things, we practically got no information about the main mystery nor are we any closer to having answers to the main questions related to the quest. So this is the reason why it feels weird to read the first part, it does not stand on its own. I quite like the characters and enjoy the banter, but this really should have been one chunkier book.

For other readers: you really should have the second volume ready at hand.
