Was just looking at the original copyright date. 1941. There are so many books, movies set during WW2, but this which uses the war as a setting was written when the actual war was going on.

Near the beginning of the book there is a conversation about how long they thought the war would go on. Realizing the author didn't know when she wrote this, makes the conversation seem more realistic.
