waterhen commented on ChaosReader's review of The Kraken's Castaway: A Dark Monster Romance (For the Love of Titans)
I think this follows the general model of the ‘monster’ romance well. Though I do think more could have been done to add to the emotional connection between the MC’s. As I think currently it focuses much more on their sexual capability and inflates that with love. I did find the authors half man, half beast approach a bit refreshing. As she has both the MMC and FMC become altered by these gods/monsters, and it is made clear that the MMC is a separate being to the monster, they are just sharing a body.
I won’t lie, this has a lot in it that is not necessarily my thing, but I can commend the author for how they went about the broader story around this. Where mixed into the Kraken Tentacle breeding kink components they do sprinkle in lessons about compassion, understanding, and acceptance and discuss grief, particularly in regards to miscarriages, in a respectful and heartening way.
My biggest complaints are the relationship development and general plot flow, but it wasn’t bad. In fact it made me interested to watch and see how this author progresses in their writing as this is self-published. Which reminds me, I do need to give props to the author for the audiobook. They narrated it themselves, something that can be very hit or miss, especially with fiction, but I do think, as this appears to be her first audiobook, that she did a good job with it.
