This short story was probably going to be a 2-3 star read for me until the end in which we find out the main character is homophobic and uses a slur to refer to an Achillean couple. To cut the author some leeway, apparently he lives in a very homophobic country, so perhaps he wanted to show what the real horror is in a short story this dark and post-apocalyptic. Or something. I don't know. Unfortunately, it didn't work for me, and I want my $.99 back.
Other than this stellar ending (/sarc) which left me without a sense of closure, there were some other Big Dark Things going on here that were very messed up and didn't have content warnings for in the book or elsewhere I can find. Possible spoilers ahead, but these things include necrophilia and... I'm not sure what to a call it; a sort of consensual cannibalism in a zombie way. While I wasn't personally too badly bothered by these things, they WERE shocking, and I was a bit grossed out. A head's up would have been appreciated.
As a side note, I'm not one to get hung up over some grammar or punctuation errors unless they're severe, and they weren't here, but I will say the story could have used another once-over to tidy up the misplaced commas and rephase a couple awkward sentences. However, I don't think the author's first language is English, so I can cut him even more slack there.
Putting aside the ending and the lack of content warnings, the story itself was alright: a slice of messed up zombie apocalypse darkness with a very, very dark MM tragedy that spirals into insanity. It was certainly the experience.
