i find jasmine's writing so ridiculously unbelievable/unrealistic and misogynistic. no one acts like this. so much of this worldbuilding is so 2010s disney channel with only a slight meta of the fmc finding it all "cliche". which is also written in a cliche "not like other girls" way imo.

i picked up this book on my visit to Madrid a couple of months ago. it's the first book i've read for pleasure in spanish. i'm really glad i did so for 2 reasons: firstly, it made me focus on each and every word; secondly, it's closer to the original than english. this book is known for its straightforward narrative style and i'd say that (from the eng bits i checked) the english translation is even slightly more embellished.
this book hurt my heart. something about it made me feel a really deep sadness. i didn't think i'd like it but it rlly is a 10/10.

for me it was really dense/repetitive and i would have preferred it more as a daily story kind of situation, not as a collection to read straight through. also (perhaps obviously) the least feminist thing ive ever read, which i dont usually care about, but DAMN misogyny makes for some boring ass female chars and as a result lackluster stories. otherwise the quality and impact of these stories can't be denied
