The Exquisite Torment of Loving Your Enemy (Dearly Beloathed, #2)

"I love you so much that I found a therapist so I could love you right."
I enjoyed this one! Subject matter was maybe a bit heavy (loss of a loved one) and the messy feelings that stem from that. The guilt, the grief, the depression. Bennet is stuck at the beginning of the story after the loss of her previous boyfriend. She embarks on the Passion Project cause she's tired of being stuck. Hard things have to be dealt with. Bennett is not a perfect character and it made her story more impactful to me. I felt this story had so much heart at its core. I wasn't a 100% sold on the romance (i don't have anything against it, they were cute together) but I didn't really care because it wasn't the most important part to me. I liked the emphasis on her other relationships, especially with her friends. With herself. Being in love doesn't solve her problems or her trauma. Falling in love actually puts her in a spot where she has to deal with her shit. This side of her arc was very interesting to me.
More quotes :
"... I just don't understand why it's so easy for everyone else and not me."
'I watched everyone around me grow up and flourish, but I stayed where I was, as close to Sam as possible.'
"[Have you ever thought] that maybe you should like someone who's a little easier? Less messed up?" "No." He shakes his head. "Not for a second."
'If I could forgive myself, I really would have by now. But Sam will never be around to forgive me. Of course I don't want this.'
"You showed me love doesn't care about whether or not you have your shit together, or if you're a grieving mess."
