  • took a trip to the library

i’m sure so many folks here are frequent flyers at the library but if not i just came to spread a little library propaganda. WOW! i moved from my hometown about 2 years ago and i never got around to getting a library card because i was anxious they would say no since i hadn’t updated the address on my license yet. news flash they literally don’t care and i brought them a piece of mail instead. but the overall experience was awesome! there were so many amazing things you can rent out like free internet access for your home, craft kits, and switch games! it was incredible. i can’t wait to go back. im also trying to move away from buying new books every time i want to read something. if you’ve been putting off getting your library card…this is your sign. šŸ“šāļø

  • Assata: An Autobiography
    Thoughts from 78% (page 316) Ch. 13

The way I wanted to get up and start yelling when I read this:

ā€ā€¦the true history of any oppressed people is impossible to find in history books.ā€

    BECAUSE YES.

History isn’t just forgotten, it’s omitted, sanitized, or buried beneath a version that’s easier to digest.

Living in Hawaiʻi, I see that all the time.

People are shocked to learn about the illegal overthrow of the Hawaiian Kingdom because they were never taught it. Then, when Native Hawaiians fight to protect our land, language, or culture, we’re met with, ā€œWell, where would HawaiŹ»i be without tourism?ā€ or ā€œThe military keeps the economy afloat.ā€

As if those systems appeared out of thin air.

As if generations of dispossession, displacement, and policy had nothing to do with why Hawaiʻi was made economically dependent on them in the first place! 😤

  • Very specific book rec

I'm looking a very specific book recommendation. It might sound weird, but I want a book (preferably romance or romantasy) where the FMC tries to seduce the MMC or throw herself at him, and he's very attracted to her but has to stop himself (for any reason that later reveals itself in the plot). I'm in the mood for this specifc type of yearning and tension, but I don't know what to search for. šŸ˜…

i often have a hard time articulating my thoughts especially when it comes to political and social issues but this book is so good for starting conversations with others. i love following the trends and there are so many maps which i love! i also love that it’s a WORLD atlas. as an american (🫩) it is always so amazing to learn about other places because i’m convinced that other americans are convinced they are the only people on earth and that our way of life is how everyone lives which is #UNTRUE

  • On no, it's not just books!

I have a lot of books. A ton of ebooks but also between 1000 and 1500 physical books, and I keep adding to those because I like to support local, independent bookstores. I got to them, I buy books, journals, pens, whatever.

Well...I also like to have a glass of wine now and again, and I like to support small, family-owned wineries and wine bars. So I've joined a few wine clubs, through which I have regular pickups of wine. I've known for a while that I'm accumulating the wine much faster than I'm drinking it. I'm just not a very heavy drinker as a rule. So, when I get new wine I just stash and figure I'll get to it eventually.

I'm cleaning up today and decided to finally count the wine bottles and...I have 62 bottles of wine. I'll never drink all that. I'm compiling a list of people to give things to.

    I promise I'm not a hoarder!

Besides books, what do you all, er...accumulate?

I'm really enjoying this so far that I'm scared of what's going to happen with such a low average rating
