I didn’t enjoy this one, but I finished it anyway so I could continue the story. What I’ve appreciated about the other books in the series is that there’s usually a strong Ever-centered plot happening in the background. This one, though, mostly just gave me the ick Big Daddy? Girl, be so for real. 😅 Buried somewhere underneath it all was a potentially interesting storyline involving the Hispanic/Latin mob-ish elements with her dad. However, like the characters, it was covered in jizz. ☠️ I also had a hard time getting past the fact that a white author spent so much time focusing on a woman of color’s hair and talking about how difficult it was to manage. I too am a white woman, but something about that part just didn’t sit right with me. It felt a little… icky. 🤨

This was actually a really fun read. It’s a silly little monster romance, with an actually intriguing plot going on in the background. I love a monster romance, but usually it’s just about the boning and nothing much else. But with this, I was immediately ready to start the next book to see what was happening next. There were a few cringey moments word choice-wise. But over all I loved it.
Side Note: I did listen to it and I didn’t include the fact that Mason Lloyd was the male narrator in my rating. But I’m so not a fan of his alien/monster voice. Sometimes he will say something and all I can hear is Dr. Zoidberg. 🥴🤣😅

Wow. I love a great gothic story, and wow does Johanna van Veen know how to write one. The setting, the dread, the yearning? chef’s kiss She also has a way of writing body horror that, while still disturbing, is somehow beautiful. I could absolutely see this as a movie, and I’m already dream-casting it in my head. 😅
