Is there any lightness in this book - I fear this is NOT a summer read :/

will need to tandem read 🤝🏽

Just finished chapter 1 via audible - will need to tandem read this on my kindle though. This stream of consciousness that I was warned of requires two methods of reading 😫 (girl who kept Virginia Woolf at a polite arm’s length distance during her English Lit undergrad years)

plot felt better than the last, at least it read as more mysterious, and rooted in an interesting history of the queens who ruled the princely states Wyndham far less likeable in this one - the side plot of him and Annie is tiresome and weird and more of Banerjee is needed 🏃🏻‍♀️

This was so tender 🥺🥺🥺 I finished it yesterday and have been mulling over the softness in this novel’s writing. I don’t know if this makes sense but some authors write really good novels but their hand feel heavy in it, like I can feel their hands writing it but this novel? This had a softness to it that is rarely found and felt. It felt like the author was writing it with the tenderness and compassion a story like this needs, a story of youth and friendship, grief and loss, of parents and your teachers and your classmates all trying to get through the ups and downs of life. It truly is a stunning debut. What a pleasure to read.
