Recs if you like Ice...

Much of the post/apoc genre is taken up by US-centric fiction, giving a very specific mindset & often a similar type of apocalypse. There's a strong focus on guns & military. Settings outside the US can provide us with unusual, diverse & interesting stories of survival

Sister list to: Zombie Apocs - But Not US-centric

Fictional settings allowed. Some books may cross borders, inc sections in the US. Allowance made for US indigenous authors

For when reading a classic feels too daunting. Classics under 200 pages!

classics (including modern classics) under 200 pages

Everyone knows George Orwell or Aldous Huxley. Their works are considered to be the staples of dystopia stories.

But are they?

Most of the people know Octavia E. Butler or Margaret Atwood. They showed the feminine side of dystopia. But this subgenre of science fiction have much more to offer.

Yes, you find here all the famous ladies too but I'll do my best to find even more. So I hope the fellow Boundlings will help too💗

my favorite genre. elvia wilk’s essay is the best on what this genre is, but here’s an excerpt: “Weird knowledge does not deny the capacity of the human mind and body to produce knowledge, but it does not reduce the world to human subject experience either. Unlike science fiction—in which there is a rational explanation for everything—and fantasy—where magic explains it all—weirdness hovers between poles of explainability.”

Horrors and thrillers set in winter (21st December to 20th March, but I will count earlier December as winter too to make things easier) or in a really cold place that reminds of wintertime.

The list will contain both more known books that you've probably already been recommended and some that I've seen have had less attention, at least over here. I have not read them all, but I want to complete this list myself too during the next Christmasses.

If you ask someone what apocalyptic or post-apocalyptic fiction they've read, there's a fair chance much of that list will have been written by cis men, because they're the books that get the most promotion in the genre.

My hope is that this list will help someone find a new favourite apocalypse author! ♡

Suggestions so welcome, particularly for trans, enby, & other authors of marginalised genders

Lives of outsiders rendered in sharp prose style. Descendants of Shelley, the Brontes, and Woolf; forebears to 'Weird Girl Lit'. Title refers to the authors, the subjects of the work may not always be women. Focused on novels published between WW2 and 9/11, with a few memoirs and short story collections.

As seen on Lithub

The list of books which are science fiction but not exactly.

The "science" part is not that important. Technology, space ships or how to pursue the time travel - obsolete. Truly important are the questions about the human condition.

Hopefully, I'll expand it with time.

Open for recommendations😊

Brb, just thinking about what I'd do in an environmental apocalypse

Note: I will be deleting my PB account within the next two weeks, and I believe this list will be erased. Feel free to screenshot it if you see anything that interests you! ☺️ 3/17/2026

for the weirdos and freaks

literary fiction/general fiction books with a speculative twist some lean more on the literary side, some more speculative. these books are more likely to be marketed as lit fic than speculative/sci-fi/fantasy.

books that deal with the depths and complexities of the mind, across multiple genres. predominantly psychological thrillers/horror.

The female writers the canon has “forgotten” about (or wilfully ignored / pushed out / side tracked)

Surreal stories for a weirder winter

Not a list of dark academia books, but a list of books a character in a dark academia book would love. The melancholy, the classics, the literary, the slightly eerie.
