Recs if you like On the Edge of Gone...

Intersectionality, baby! Disability includes many conditions, including - but not limited to - physical disabilities, chronic illnesses, psychiatric disabilities, sensory disabilities, and neurodivergence.

If you ask someone what apocalyptic fiction they've read involving zombies, there's a fair chance most or even all of that list will have been written by cis men, because they're the books that get the most publication & promotion in the genre

My hope is that this list will help someone find a new favourite author! ♡

Sister list to The End & After - No Cis-Male Authors

First of a series only

Suggestions so welcome, particularly for trans, enby & other authors of marginalised genders

Much of the post/apoc genre is taken up by US-centric fiction, giving a very specific mindset & often a similar type of apocalypse. There's a strong focus on guns & military. Settings outside the US can provide us with unusual, diverse & interesting stories of survival

Sister list to: Zombie Apocs - But Not US-centric

Fictional settings allowed. Some books may cross borders, inc sections in the US. Allowance made for US indigenous authors

First of a series only

Suggestions welcome!

Disability & Neurodivergency stories are rare in apocalypse & zombie books. I've found as many as I could!

As always, suggestions incredibly welcome! I'd love to round this one out!

Not intended as a list of good neurodivergent & dis rep (thou many of them absolutely are - lots are even written by disabled/ND authors! I just haven't yet read them all, so can't recommend every book on this list), but disabled or neurodivergent characters feature heavily in these stories of survival

Middle grade, YA and Adult fictional books with canon autistic main characters

YA books written by autistic authors that include autistic characters, usually as the protagonists of the story. You know they'll get the representation right!

canon and coded autistic characters

Lots of women, sapphic romance, and cozy reads - but not all!

Speculative fiction books with autistic characters, or by openly autistic identifying authors, as put together by Ada Hoffmann from 2011 to 2023 - plus Hoffmann herself, who's also autistic. For books I couldn't find, see comments! If you can add books to GR to add them here, you're welcome to do so (and tell me so I add them to this list)!

YA fiction books with prominent autistic characters!!!! (all cannon, in text, or confirmed by author)

These are books I’ve read and enjoyed that I don’t see talked about much and think are criminally underrated! Most are under 5000 ratings on goodreads, with a few exceptions

it's time for some GL ^^ p.s: this is not a personal list, so please don't downvote. i found these recommendations myself. so, enjoy! :)

I LOVE COLOR CODING BOOKS PT 6

Speculative fiction written by disabled authors whose perspectives and experiences shape the worlds and characters they create.
