Speculative fiction books with autistic characters, or by openly autistic identifying authors, as put together by Ada Hoffmann from 2011 to 2023 - plus Hoffmann herself, who's also autistic. For books I couldn't find, see comments! If you can add books to GR to add them here, you're welcome to do so (and tell me so I add them to this list)!

"Submergence" by Arula Ratnakar is another book I cannot find here OR on Goodreads, but Ratnakar's short fiction has been published (repeatedly) by Clarkesworld Magazine, and in the anthology "Life Beyond Us" (https://pagebound.co/books/31be94ab-e8fe-4193-b8fd-93ef572f77e2)

"A Portrait of the Desert in Personages of Power" by R. B. Lemberg is also on Hoffmann's list, but I can't find the book on Pagebound or Goodreads. Note: Since the author is autistic, any book by them would have qualified for the list. (If an author with several books only has one book on the list, it doesn't mean they are not autistic - in the case of Lemberg, Hoffmann has read several books by that author and reviewed them, and she has added all her reviewed books to her list. However, she hasn't read all the authors and books on her list; some were recommended by other people. If you want to know whether an author was added for openly being autistic themselves, check out Hoffmann's website: https://www.ada-hoffmann.com/autistic-book-party/autistic-book-list/)

Third book I cannot find on PB or GR: "Iwunen Interstellar Investigations" by Bogi Takács. Worth mentioning, since according to Hoffmann, pretty much everyone in this book is autistic. Yes, you heard(read) that right. It is a planet full of autistic people. And it seems to blend fantasy with scifi, which I personally love.

Fourth book I cannot find: "The Changing of the Sun" by Asha Bardon (they/them). The author is autistic.
Fifth book I can't find: "Brave" by Elisa A. Bonnin, although Hoffmann states that "other [books]" by Bonnin also qualify. Because of that statement, and several people recommending "Lovely Dark and Deep" for its autistic rep, I decided to add that book to my list here instead.

Sixth book I can't find: "Tidewater" by Evan MacGriogair. However, Hoffmann here again states "and others", so I decided to add their "Seonag and the Seawolves" instead, which - according to the Internet - is about a girl everyone thinks is weird.

Seventh book I can't find: "When the Night Comes" by Marieke Nijkamp (they/them). However, another one of their books is already on the list. But it's worth looking up their other works - they have published a bunch of novels, short stories, and comics; they've written for Critical Role, Star Trek, Goosebumps, and more!

Eigth book I can't find: Lola Phoenix's "The Visitors".

Ninth book I can't find: Alison Venugoban's "Duality". Since Hoffmann adds that other books by Venugoban also qualify, I decided to add "Androgyny" instead. It sounds very relevant 25 years later.
Tenth book I can't find: "For Fear of Little Men" by Wendy C. Allen.

Eleventh book I can't find: "Mythhaven" by Drew Erickson

Twelth book I can't find: "88" by Mike Fletcher

So, there's an entry on the list that says "Scott Westerfield: Last Days" And there's a book called "THE Last Days" by a Scott WesterFELD. And when I look at Goodreads, it seems Westerfeld and Westerfield have been used to mean the same person in at least one case. But an author put down as "Scott Westerfield" there has two books, none of them close to "Last Days" in title, and I just can't tell whether "THE Last Days" is by him or someone with basically the same (pen)name. So I'm gonna leave it out.
