SFF featuring second worlds and storytelling that reflect and engage with hopes, anxieties, and imaginations about human activity and its influence on the environment + environmental justice. Always open to suggestions! (Note that I am using “second world” very loosely here, to mean both traditional second worlds and/or versions of Earth or parts of Earth that are so distant/strange as to be unrecognizable)

Fiction books featuring plants as a major theme. For the purpose of this list, fungi are honorary plants! All fiction genres here (though I am primarily a fantasy reader, so suggestions most welcome!)

I did some digging for a bookclub and gathered some solarpunk books, and why not share them here? (I haven't read them all) If you have more suggestions I'll add them😊

Solarpunk is a sci-fi subgenre that envisions futures build on renewable energy, greentech and community. It is mostly meant to offer a positive alternative to dystopian visions of the future. The punk aspect is usually seen as the vision of the positive future, which is considered radical and rebellious itself.

Self-contained SFF books that belong to a series, offering a complete story without a multi-book commitment. A perfect way to sample immersive worlds while limiting potential disappointment – yet still leaving more to explore if you liked it.

This started out as a list for some of my friends after a discussion whilst watching PHM. All of us had enjoyed the book, but there were some things about the plot that we felt the film did better, mainly the female characters. Since Sci-Fi is my favourite genre, I wanted to share some recs that made me love it as well as books that were on my radar After browsing the other lists and not seeing anything similar, I felt like I wanted to share it here too. Recs are welcome and encouraged!

This is for the classics, the old and new, the lesser known books, the short stories and the translated speculative fiction. Sci-fi could be argued to be one of the best and most expansive genres out there - it’s just a matter of finding the right book for you.

If there is a series, I will only be putting the first book unless they are unrelated.

Audiobooks that are less than 10 hours long and are safe for work AKA not aiming to get your horned up at your desk (no guarantees that you won't cry or get the creeps though). Recommendations welcome!

Do you know the Hainish Cycle written by Ursula K. Le Guin? It is a science fiction saga and these are the books that are part of it.

Fiction that deals with climate change. Books may take place in the world as we know it, in the near future, or in fictional worlds experiencing climate change.

Fiction with revolutionary themes or spirit because prefiguration (imagining possible futures, designing alternatives) is crucial. Also contains works engaging with revolutions and the lives enmeshed within them. We must protect the little flame. And books are the best.
