Fiction books featuring plants as a major theme. For the purpose of this list, fungi are honorary plants! All fiction genres here (though I am primarily a fantasy reader, so suggestions most welcome!)

Much of the post/apoc genre is taken up by US-centric fiction, giving a very specific mindset & often a similar type of apocalypse. There's a strong focus on guns & military. Settings outside the US can provide us with unusual, diverse & interesting stories of survival

Disability & Neurodivergency stories are rare in apocalypse & zombies books. I've found as many as I could!

Not intended as a list of good neurodivergent & dis rep (thou many of them absolutely are - lots are even written by disabled/ND authors! I just haven't read them all, so can't recommend every book on this list), but disabled or neurodivergent characters feature heavily in these stories of survival

My recommended science fiction stories (stand-alone and series) that I think are worth giving a go.

Books where the characters have to survive in secluded places, away from civilization. The term was coined by Defoe's Robinson Crusoe but beside literary fiction this theme is often prevalent in post-apocalyptic fiction and sci-fi. This list interprets the theme more loosely and focuses on the practical side of survival, basically: less running from zombies and more building fences :)
