Siblings as the MC 🫂

These are works with siblings (borthers/sisters) as its protagonist and heart of the story. Don't need to necessary be blood related or in good term. It can be rivalry, as long as the story have siblinghood as one of the theme. The siblings need to be a fully-fleshed character, not background character and—weird that I need to clarify it—NOT A FUCKING INCEST 🔪

I guess a Game of Thrones is banned from the list then lmao.

My recommendations:

  • a Song of Wraiths and Ruin by Roseanne A. Brown
  • A Summer to Die by Lois Lowry
  • Final Fantasy Lost Stranger by Hazuki Minase
  • Geisha, a Life by Mineko Iwasaki
  • Little Women by Louisa May Alcott
  • Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen
  • Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston
  • The Duke and I by Julia Quinn
  • The Willoughbys by Lois Lowry
  • Your Name by Makoto Shinkai
  • Y: the Last Man by Brian K. Vaughan

Thank youu I will definitely check it (。・ω・。)ノ♡ I didn't know Willoughby was a book before haha. And how can I forgot Little Women. The sisterhood book starter pack (maybe because I haven't read it 😅)

Wait, the Willoughbys has an adaptation? I had no idea hahaha. We're both learning things.

Loved that you had to specify NO INCEST THOUGH 🤣🤣 Mangas sometimes 🤦‍♀️

I realize it's not that common to have brotherhood/sisterhood as a central theme, at least not in what I've read 🤔 So it's definitely an interesting list concept! However if you are taking recommendations, may I suggest:

  • The River Has Roots where the relationship between two sisters is central
  • Jade City and the rest of The Greenbone Saga as it's the role of each sibling within the clan is critical, and a lot of emphasis is given on sibling relationships (whether blood related or not e.g the Maik brothers, cousin Aiden,...)
  • The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants as although not on blood related sisters, the theme is again central I guess?

Unrelated: Would love to hear if you have a few Indo books that were translated (either English or French) that you would recommend? Can be any genre!

Thank you for checking this out! Since this list originally made to include manga in mind, I'm really impressed by the amount of sibling-focused story in manga but also disgusted by the amount of incest 😭 so I really need to specify.

Again, thank you thank you for the suggestions (人 •͈ᴗ•͈). I sometimes prefer to read first before adding and other times didn't haha. For this, I will definitely add it. (Turn out, The River Has Roots is already in my Storygraph TBR for a year LMAO)

For translated Indonesian books, there are not many, but you can start by The Sea Speak His Name by Leila S. Chidori. It's about Indonesia during Soeharto's authoritarian regime. Following Laut (his name literally mean "Sea"), a college student and anti-government activist that abducted by the gov. The story told from his recollection while being drowned in the sea.

Sorry I don't know much about French lit except the popular ones like Le Petit Prince and a few other ಥ‿ಥ

No I get it, I've read my fair share of mangas / watched animes and, damn, the japanese have a problem with the topic 😭

These are mere suggestions, don't feel obligated to add them! Please don't hesitate to review your additions, your list your rules!

I love the mangas you've already added 🥹 I've been thinking about which ones I could suggest but I only came up with the following, which I'm not entirely convinced...

  • Sugar Sugar Rune - although not blood sisters, the sisterhood and competition is fierce!
  • My Younger Brother's Friend - ok this is more on the romance than the sibling relationship (but no incest I swear!) but I though the title was funny 😁
  • Ceres: Celestial Legend - read it a while back so can't really remember but there it is partially centered around the bound between the twins (very probably incestuous vibes but not actually one I think 🤔 please someone helps!)

Thank you so much to the Indo reco! Thanks to that I was able to come across an Indo book list so I know where to start now!

Hahaha why are you apologizing? I know nothing of Indo literature myself! That's why I made the lists though, so people that are interesting can have a place to start!

I love this list and I LOVE seeing Trigun on here!!! Not sure if the siblinghood theme is quite as front and centre to match your vision for this list, but Delicious in Dungeon has Laios and Falin as MCs and the inciting incident is ultimately about them 🤔
