Give me a sign by Anna Sortino! It's about a girl returning to a camp she went to as a child but now as junior counselor. It's lighthearted but at the same time it doesn't shy away from showing the struggles the deaf and blind community go through
Thank you so much!!! I put it on this list! I'm going to save it on my TBR for the anniversary next year so I have a new book to look forward to! Thank you so so much!!!
You're so sweet! Thank you for creating this list! And have fun reading!!
Y'all. Do you know how difficult it is to find YA/Adult books that do not have the death of a parent or sexual violence in the trigger warnings and feel like a warm hug? Apparently, it's really freaking hard for me! So I'm hoping this can be a bit of a community project!! If you know of a happy book in any genre that avoids grief, sexual violence, and the death of immediate family members I would be eternally grateful for the recs!
I was also thinking, maybe we could work together as a community in these comments to suggest books for people avoiding other specific topics? Like if someone could start a comment with something like "Looking for A Serotonin Suite that is free from child death, miscarriage, and infertility" and people could give recs under it?
Idk if that would work, but it was an idea I had when I realized that I need a list like this for next year and other people probably need lists like this for their own hard times. Open to suggestions!
Fr fr when my dad had cancer and then after he died from it, I felt like every other book I picked up for a while had cancer in it or parental death, even kids books. While I wasn't actively avoiding that necessarily, it did get incredibly tiresome and made it quite hard to pick some books back up
I'm so sorry for your loss!! Why is it so hard?? I had a massive list in my head of feel good, happy books that I could put on this list... and then I started checking the content warnings and could barely find any. Obviously the overall tone of those books is happy, but I want to have a true "safe space" for reading around the anniversary going forward. So this list will definitely be a work in progress as I find more!
I love this! I read a lot of heavy books, and sometimes I just want to read something lighter. Iâve also struggled with finding books that avoid some more graphic elements, so this is very much appreciated. Iâd recommend Comet in Moominland, and the rest of the moonin books. Theyâre more middle grade, but they are pure whimsical delight, and I still read them when I need something lighter.
Okay this is going to sound so weird but I swear out of nowhere Moomin (Moomins?) has been stalking me this year!! I have never heard of it before now they are everywhere! I think it's a sign from the universe that I need to read them!! Thank you so much for the rec!!
