Do the books need to be read in order or is it more a murder per book and just the same detective?
I say they don't have to be but he does change as a character a bit after WW2 and the bombs as anyone who lived through that would.
oh damn! I had no idea it was set around that period, I don't think I ever read anything from the Japanese perspective from that time. Of course he would change.
I asked because I wanted to read The Village of Eight Graves for a challenge. Do you think it can stand on its own? Also curious if that one happens before or after the bombs.
I haven't read that one so I don't know if it's after. I've read Honjin, The Inugami Curse and The Devil's Flute. The first two are before the bombs and Devil's Flute is I think not long after.... The thing is the translated works as far as I know aren't exactly in chronological order either, since this is the first time they've been translated they're doing the most popular in the series first. At least that's my understanding. I could be wrong...
