Botanical horror is great and all, but have you ever thought about all the horrors scuttling beneath the leaves?
Horror that features bugs (insects and arachnids - argue about whether shellfish should be involved in the comments) as a major antagonist.

I think shellfish should be included 'cause shrimp is bugs (not that I have any shellfish related horror oops).
Shrimp is indeed bugs, I do agree (I also couldn't find any shellfish related horror. Should I write crab horror?)
I'd sign up for that ARC! I've seen some shows depict leviathans and krakens as being giant lobsters or crabs, so I feel like it probably exists in literature somewhere and there's definitely space for more đŠđŠđŠ
Maybe I'll give it a spin! I also did a little searching and found out that an author named Guy N. Smith has written no less than SEVEN crab horror books, which I may have to check out now. I put the first in the series into the list!
i concur, shrimp is so bugs. theyâre classified as Arthopods which includes spiders, bees, aphids, etc and everybody thinks of those as insects
They're definitely all minibeasts which is a word I learned about a few months ago and haven't stopped thinking about.
BRB, changing all my social media handles to Minibeast đ I love it!
oh i love that term! it seems so useful for describing how complex these tiny creatures are to non-ecology enmeshed people!
This is such a cool listđ And I learned bug facts from the comments! I have an X Files list and was wondering if anyone could point out to me a book or two from here with X Files vibes? There are quite a few episodes involving bugs, from killer bees, to flesh eating fire flies to alien spy robot cockroaches!
I haven't read every book on here so this is by no means comprehensive, but The Queen and The Troop by Nick Cutter both have X-Files vibes - they're even in the same universe!
Thanks so much for the recs!
