Soviet Milk by Nora Ikstena would fit perfectly here. It's a relationship between a mother and her daughter in Russian occupied Latvia. Super dramatic novel, but about a broken relationship with being in a dictatorship. Also I'm glad my mom died by Jenette McCurdy. Fantastic memoir.
