Of course! I read Jesus and John Wayne earlier this year and I think that added a layer to Yesteryear that I wouldn't have found in it if I hadn't.
Hello it's me again - finished the book and started looking up books I want to read with similar themes/style to Yesteryear. I wouldn't say they necessarily fit the theme you are going for with this list, but figured I would share the tangential recs I came across in case you/others are interested but I haven't actually read any of these yet so huge grain of salt: No One is Talking About This by Patricia Lockwood (also putting her memoir Priestdaddy on my TBR too), Melmoth by Sarah Perry, Erasure by Percival Everett, and I'm going to be cautious with this author because from what I have found so far they had racist/bigoted beliefs but checking out Flannery O'Connor - apparently their work critiques their own bigoted beliefs but I wanted to disclose the surface level info I have found out before leading anyone astray!
Ohh thank you!! I thought about doing a list with similar themes and not just nonfiction reads or combining them but I didn't feel confident enough in the fiction books I've read that would be similar. Super interested in the Patricia Lockwood ones. I can't think of a single fiction read that contains a character quite like Natalie that I've read, other than maybe Amy Dunne from Gone Girl but they are different sides of the same the coin in a way to me. Always appreciate more books to read! 🤗
