i have an unconventional read for you Sri Gur Panth Prakash by Bhai Rattan Singh Bhangu. i’ve learned recently there are more desis on this platform that i originally thought (YAY). this book covers the history of the sikh faith as a response to when the british were trying to eradicate us. It’s been translated into fifty languages that i’m aware of and i have a pdf link for anyone who can’t find a copy (as it’s public domain and banned in india 🤓)
you do not need to add this i just think it would a fun starting point for anyone who wants to know the history

OK, coming back to check out all the community suggestions. I was able to find this on Internet Archive and skim a bit, and unfortunately I don't know if this specific list is the best one for it. The archaic language of the translation and the assumed context for the text makes it less accessible to a random uninformed person than I'm aiming for here. If you know or find other books that cover Sikhism in a really simple way- like if you had a random privileged friend who's maybe met Sikhs before but that's all they know about the religion, what would be a good book to hand them to just start them out on being like "ohhh, maybe this is important"- I'd love to add them, though!
