Worlds Within Worlds

Books in which the characters 'go into' real, physical objects in their own world to get to another world/universe. It has to be objects that are not usually meant to 'transport' you, like vehicles or doorways.

✅ The Land of Stories: The characters have to 'go into' a book to get to the Land of Stories. ❌ Harry Potter: The characters take a train to another location within their own world. ❌ Coraline: The characters go through a secret door to get to the other world.

Notes:

  • Recs are always welcome!
  • Because of the way series works and how this could happen in one specific book and not the rest, I will include all books of a series where this specifically happens
  • All genres and age ratings are welcome, though maybe not like picture books for toddlers
  • I have not read every single book on here, so if you see something that accidentally slipped in, let me know!

List of portal methods that I do not count for this list (will be updated as I find more):

  • Cars, trains, planes, etc
  • Doors, doorways, hallways, trapdoors
  • Tunnels, caves, rabbit holes, etc
  • Magic spells, ripping a hole through space-time, teleportation

Examples of things that I WOULD count, if that is more useful to you:

  • Books, mirrors, buckets, teapots, paintings, etc
