Western horror is such an interesting genre to me. Those grat plains, canyons and mountains have a whole lot of potential for fear.

I agree - it’s sort of the opposite of forest horror (which is probably my favorite). There’s something so eerie about those wide open spaces, the scale of it, that makes you feel like there’s no way out. I’m loving this list!

Yeah! The wide open spaces are the creepiest! The heat, the sun as an indifferent god, the dust settling on every surface and causing perma-dirt on the skin, the afternoon sun casting harsh and dark shadows out of every man-made object and structure. It's all just so creepy and depressing!

I'm so glad you get it! There's something so horrifying about the wide open plains that even with all that space you'll be so isolated. Then throw in the unrelenting sun and chances of being shot or worse and you get some really great settings for horror!
