There are a few more books I would recommend. Jack Whyte wrote the Camulod Chronicles, an Arthurian retelling that starts in the latter days of the Roman Empire in Britain with the last legionnaires and takes us through Uther Pendragon all the way to Arthur, Guinevere and Lancelot. The first in the series is The Skystone. My fave is Uther. While the series is not perfect, it was thoroughly enjoyable.
Diana Gabaldon, author of the Outlander series, spoke highly of Jack Whyte and his historical fiction.

I’d also recommend Rosemary Sutcliff’s only adult historical novel, Sword at Sunset. It’s a brilliant retelling of Artos the Bear in what might have happened to a real King Arthur during 5th C. Britain. It sticks with the historical more than the mythical or magical.
