if a safeword is established, i want to see it get used and i want the angst and the comfort and the negotiation!
aka. books in which a character uses their safeword
(may also include books with the partner noticing discomfort and stopping without explicit safeword usage)

Omg I just discovered this list and I love it so much! Thank you for taking the time to find so many books that mention (and use!!!) safe words! 😍
Now that's a good premise for a list!! I used to read a lot of kink books and it's shocking how often they include the concept of safe words but never actually USE THEM.
The only author I've read that I can think of offhand who goes into consent issues really well and very often is Tymber Dalton (actually community herself, so, tracks). It's too long since I read them to be sure of specific books that meet the criteria, though, unfortunately!
yes i agree, i read so much kink stuff when i was younger but safewords were never used or barely included 😭
So depressing and damaging! Thank god the majority of people who read these books will probably never actually practice! 🤦🏻♀️
it really is, but even if they don't practice, those kinds of books just fuel misconceptions and assumptions about kink 😭 i read (and wrote) a lot of kink fanfiction/stories in my teens and all of my initial education on kink came from these kinds of stories, and i don't recall them ever including the proper use of safewords or negotiation etc so i'm speaking from experience when i say it means that when people do actually try to explore/practice kink the actual risk/harm of it nearly always comes as a surprise because of unrealistic expectations 😭
Absolutely... And god knows there's also quite enough misinformation caused prejudice out there as is, and media that shows it in bad light does not help!
That's again one thing I liked about Tymber Dalton's books. They're set in and around a kink club community, but one grounded in reality, with normal people (not rich dicks playing games) with negotiation, safety, and consent at its heart. Not perfect, nothing is, but pretty damn good as it goes.
exactly! and i've not read any of their stuff (tbh i've not read fiction for like 8-10 yrs until this year) but if i do branch out i'll keep it in mind! 🙂↕️👀
