gender shenanigans

This is a list of books which feature a character for plot reasons, disguising themself as another gender (sometimes followed by the realisation that they may not be cis actually ). If you've got suggestions for books that feature this trope, please let me know. Disclaimer: I have not read all of these yet.

Lynn Flewelling's The Bone Doll's Twin has the crossdressing/gender disguise element of the plot!

Thanks! I'll add it

Lila Bard in A Darker Shade of Magic wears a cross dress disguise and is very gnc in general. I wouldn’t normally suggest it since that’s kinda the extent of it, but VE Schwab in recent years switched from she/her to she/they pronouns and has openly talked about how they wanted to write more queer and sapphic characters before but felt limited by the publishing landscape. So I (perhaps parasitically) retrospectively attribute more weight to it as being something Schwab might’ve wanted to push further, or been exploring herself at the time.

If I remember correctly, Graceling fits this list
