Hey, fyi, Memoirs of a Geisha is not an actual memoir despite its perhaps intentionally obfuscating title. It's historical fiction written by a white American man. The author interviewed famous geisha Mineko Iwasaki (and several others) for details of their lives, and Iwasaki alleged that he fictionalized and sensationalized and even wholesale made things up about her story (such as the lurid mizuage as Golden portrayed), and deeply harmed her personal and professional life by breaking their confidentiality agreement by naming her in his acknowledgments.

I recommend her autobiography, Geisha, A Life!

i highly recommend braiding sweetgrass! it's part memoir, part personal reflection on the author's indigenous heritage, and part science/nature nonfiction which applies indigenous teachings to our understanding of the environment
