Feed Them Silence by Lee Mandelo would 100% fit this vibe! Messy butch scientist has a parasocial relationship with one of the last remaining wolf packs (and is making technology to be in one of the wolf's brain/consciousness). It's also depressing cli-fi that is a lot about toxic relationships on multiple levels.
