Honestly, I have no idea who this book is for. I saw a review that mentioned they wouldn't expect this book to have even been published if the author wasn't already well-known for acting and for a controversial autobiographical book title. I totally agree, because while some argue this book isn't glorifying a student x teacher relationship, I absolutely believe it does. There's no growth for a single character in the book, there's no lessons learned, just shock-value scenes written in a minor's perspective that made it incredibly creepy to get through. And I think that's the only thing McCurdy actually has going for her and why she has sold so many copies of both books, to be honest. I think she only offers shock-value.

I listened to the audiobook which is narrated by McCurdy, same as her autobiography. The self-insertion argument is strong here, as the narration styles are way too similar. McCurdy girl, I get that you had a rough go of it, but this stuff is just gross. I also disliked the narration attitude of "I understand pick-me girls. I get them, but I'm not one of them. I'm above them", which in turn immediately makes the narrator the queen of pick-me girls. While I enjoyed McCurdy's autobiography and can appreciate her struggles and her history, I genuinely don't think I would like her as a person, simply because of this book. I don't think the "fictional" tag does this story any favors, as it reads too much like the second part to her autobiography and the content doesn't do enough to make us condemn the grooming behaviors.

Really, this might be the first book I've ever said I can't recommend to anyone. I can't imagine who I would want to read this junk. I don't think anyone would benefit from this story, it's just off-putting the entire way through.
