Despite the fact that this took me ages, I really liked this book! It was a completely different world, and I really enjoyed the magic system and how it still incorporated technology. It is very interesting. I was surprised by how different the rest of the book was from part 1, which I guess was more of a prologue then I was initially expecting, but I’ve always loved reading about political manoeuvring and stuff so it was just as fun. As for the characters, I like Talasyn. She is powerful, both literally and at court, and it was fun to watch her figure out both sides. I like her fire and her willingness to do the right thing, but it is sad that it costs her herself. I enjoyed Alaric, cause I always enjoy characters like him. I do hope that he comes to see that murdering people on the scale his father did was in fact a bad thing, but other than that, I really liked him. The tension between him and Talasyn was great, and I really, really want them to just accept it. I also really liked the setting, and how vibrant the culture of Nenavar was. It was nice to see the Asian inspiration, which I haven’t found in many books I read. It has reminded me to branch out some more. I’m definitely going to read the next one, and I’m excited to see what happens!
