So...how do I say this? I've been watching The Pitt recently, and I realized I am INTO it, like really into it. I think it's my current fixation tbh. That led me to wonder: does anyone have any books that give "the pitt" vibes? It doesn't have to be medical/medical-related books. For example, I started reading "A Magical Girl Retires", and I was thinking "Robby should read this book" (yeah, it's that bad lol) due to its story dealing with a burnt out, near the end of her rope protagonist who is just looking for a way out, and she's struggling with grief. So yeah, any books that give the vibes of the different characters, maybe or plot points. Thanks!!!

Hi! I usually read a lot of dystopias but I'd like to read books that would help me envision a positive post-capitalist society. So far I think I've only come across The Monk and the Robot by Becky Chambers and I really really loved it. Do you have any similar recs ?

This thursday, the 23rd of April, is the day of the book and the rose in Catalonia, Spain. I wanted to make this post on thursday but something in me wanted to give some time in case anyone wanted to celebrate alongside me and my country!
On this day, Barcelona and the rest of Catalonia is painted with roses and books all over. You can search for images of Sant Jordi day and you will find stops on the streets, colour everywhere, and lots of love in the air.
The tradicion says lovers give a book and a rose to each other (typically a man gives a rose and a woman gives a book but... I think you understand why we take that part more freely) because of the legend of Sant Jordi.
It's about a dragon taking a princess hostage and a knight coming to rescue her. In the process he kills the dragon, and from the spilled blood a rose blooms, which he gifts to her. There are many versions and retellings, but this is roughly what you can find in all of them.
This is my favourite day of the year, I love everyone buying books and roses and taking a stroll to spend this gorgeous festivity. Did you know about it? Is there any similar festivity in your culture? Will you gift a book and a rose this Thursday, too? Let me know, and happy Sant Jordi everyone!!! â€ïžđčđđ

I don't think I can write any possible review that would reflect how important and deeply devastating this book is, so I'll just leave a quote that I feel reflects very well what being Palestinian must feel like đ
"It is not my fault that they are Jewish. I have zero interest in apologizing for centuries-old tropes created by Europeans, when millions of us confront real, tangible oppression, living behind cement walls, or under siege, or in exile, and living with woes too expansive to summarize. I am tired of the impulse to preemptively distance myself from something of which I am not guilty, and particularly tired of the constant burden to prove that I am not inherently bigoted. Iâm tired of the pearl-clutching pretense that should such animosity exist, its existence would be inexplicable and rootless, of the academics and the intellectuals punching down on the unfiltered among us. Most of all, I am tired of the false equivalence between semantic âviolenceâ and systemic violence: only one party in this âconflictâ is actively engaged in the intentional and systematic attempted eradication of an entire population."

Boundlings! I need help from people who have actually survived the book box rabbit hole because I have officially reached decision paralysisâŠ
This started after a conversation I had with @linguini on another post about our love for stationery and the fact that book boxes are basically âserotonin in a box,â and honestly⊠I would like some serotonin please. I spiraled into researching them, which I thought would be simple. It is not. I keep thinking Iâve narrowed it down, then I find another one and Iâm right back at square one.
For context, I love a good surprise book. If thereâs a âblind date with a bookâ at a store or library, thereâs a very high chance Iâm picking one up. I do not need help acquiring random books or special editions, which I noticed is a big reason people choose certain boxes based on when I searched through previous posts. Also, I don ât even have the space for a pretty bookshelf right now, so those would honestly be wasted on me since I wouldnât be able to display them and admire them. (One day đ€đœ)
What I do want is the full book box experience. The extras. The stuff. I love stuff.
So I need honest input:
Which box actually has extras you still use or genuinely love, not just cute clutter?
Do any boxes make the âstuffâ feel curated and intentional instead of random filler?
Send help before I subscribe to five and call it âresearchâ đ«

I'm looking for a book where I can learn about mythology but that is easy/understandable to read and also makes it fun and interesting to learn about it. Specifically looking to learn about how all the different types of creatures came to be, the gods, that kind of thing. Hopefully my description makes sense, but I myself don't know 100% what type of book I'm looking for đ I only know I want to know how dragons and wyverns and gods came to exist in literature.
