  • 7 Deadly Sin Book Choices

I just saw someone do this on instagram and thought it would be so much fun for PB!

Share with us your 7 Deadly Sin book choices:

    1. Lust (or books you picked up just because of the cover)
    2. Pride (or difficult book you’ve read)
    3. Gluttony (or books you’ve read more than once)
    4. Sloth (or the book that’s been on your TBR the longest)
    5. Greed (or books you’ve read own multiple copies of)
    6. Wrath (or books that you despise)
    7. Envy (or books you want to live in)

    I’ll go first. Mine are:

    1. Lust - sadly, I do this a lot 🫣 I love to judge a book by its cover…Heart the Lover, When I Open the Shop, Tom Lake, How to Loiter in a Turf War to name just a few
    2. Pride - The Beguilled was a tough read. So was The Tin Drum. I also loved One Hundred Years of Solitude but found it a challenging read.
    3. Gluttony - haven’t done much rereading since I was a child so probably Alanna: The First Adventure would be my most reread
    4. Sloth - The Count of Monte Cristo has been on the list since forever
    5. Greed - I don’t have more than one copy of any book! I just don’t know why you’d need/want that 😂😂
    6. Wrath - I thought Rodham was such a creepy book to have written about real and still alive people. Especially, putting words and thoughts into Hilary’s mouth about such sexualised moments and passing the whole thing off as supportive of her and feminist in general? I felt yucky reading it.
    7. Envy - probably any cosy magical place…Emily Wilde’s academic magic adventures seem like a bit of me 😊

  • Books that you want to be on screen!

Im not usually a massive fan of books that are turned into tv shows/movies but has anyone got a book that they actually want to be turned into one? Im currently reading Thats not my name and I feel like it would be so good as a series if it was done right!

Body Electric: The Hidden Health Costs of the Digital Age and New Science to Reclaim Your Well-Being

Body Electric: The Hidden Health Costs of the Digital Age and New Science to Reclaim Your Well-Being

    Manoush Zomorodi

From the award-winning journalist and NPR TED Radio Hour host comes a timely investigation into how screens and sitting are reshaping our bodies—and how a simple shift can change everything. In today’s world, a normal day means sitting in front of a screen for eight to ten hours. Meeting after meeting. Email after email. We leave our desks drained, overstimulated and unfocused, only to go home, sit down again, and scroll some more. The result? Headaches, back pain, restless sleep, and rising rates of preventable disease. We know technology is breaking us down—so why can’t we break away? It’s a question that Manoush Zomorodi has always wanted to answer. As the host of the NPR's TED Radio Hour and Body Electric podcast, she has interviewed experts, conducted citizen experiments, and sought out research about how our digital lives are changing the way we think, learn, and feel. Now, in Body Electric, she presents an eye-opening investigation into the impact technology and sedentary living has had on our bodies and brains, from breath and eyesight to blood pressure, posture, and productivity, and shares what science (and tens of thousands of participants in a groundbreaking study with Columbia University Medical Center) have taught her—it’s the small shifts, not the digital detoxes, that will make us healthier. And all we need is five minutes. Filled with perspective-shifting data and real-life applications and tools, Body Electric is the next must-read for fans of Four Thousand Weeks and The Anxious Generation, and anyone else feeling trapped by their technology.

  • What's a phrase or word you see in books that's a pet peeve?

For me it's, "I immediately like them." I have never liked someone after they said two sentences to me, and this is almost always used on an extremely minor and/or annoying character.

Another is "But (this person/the government/the cult I've been indoctrinated into since birth) wouldn't (lie to me/be wrong) ... right?" ESPECIALLY if it is early in the book or the character is still supposed to be deep in their denial or indoctrination. It feels so lazy, like the author doesn't know how to actually write that transition.

  • Frankenstein
    Thoughts from 7% letters

I have been so confused with these letters I started reading Frankenstein without actually knowing anything about it and the start just made me have a look whether I did not accidentally pick up a copy of Moby dick (of which I also know nothing about except that there is a whale) But anyway I love the description of emotions so much!

  • Six star reads ✨

If you had to pick one book to rate six out of six stars, what book would you choose? 👀

Bonus question: if all of Pagebound had to collectively decide on a singular book to rate six stars, what book do you think would have the best chance of collective agreement?

I thought the pacing was a bit slow at times but I still really enjoyed it. I thought the Sanderlanche was great but it felt like it resolved really quickly. I'm a little disappointed we didn't get to hear what happened to everyone else. AND finding out that Brandon was (is?) going to write a sequel bums me out since Warbreaker was written in 2009. Oh well, onto the Stormlight Archives!

This book was cute and I was able to read it quickly. Might read it to my kids in the future but isn't something I'd go out of my way to read again. 🤷‍♀️
